About me
Anna Maria Wilmot
“People often only call on a third party when a conflict has already arisen. It is always nice to be able to experience firsthand the added value of strengthening mutual communication. This is even before the proverbial fly in the ointment arises. At the same time, strengthening communication can also expand the toolbox and ensure that a conflict that does arise does not have catastrophic consequences. “
As a certified mediator, I assist parties in conflict situations. Calling on a mediator gives the parties more room to focus on the substance of the conflict. The mediator guides the discussion in the right direction.
Anna is particularly passionate about communication and interaction. Despite her legal background, she chose to focus entirely on her own practice, where she welcomes people in an authentic and warm manner with a view to strengthening their communication skills.
Conflict doesn’t have to be big to be serious. Everyday frustrations related to household chores or the division of tasks at work often have a greater impact than expected. Is there another way?

Focusing on communication skills – Never too early and never too late
Phase 1
Clarifying the message
Communication with others starts with yourself. Before you can communicate with others, there are questions such as ‘what am I feeling’, ‘what do I want’, ‘what is actually affecting me?’. By reflecting on these questions, you can create clarity. The same applies to setting boundaries with others. This is only possible when you explore what your boundaries actually are and learn to identify them.
Phase 2
Communicating with others
The way you communicate with others not only has a major impact on the experience during this communication, but also on the expected results of the conversation. By being aware of the different components of communication, you regain more control over the conversation and convey your message clearly. This creates space for genuine exchange rather than a debate between two points of view.
Phase 3
Dealing with conflict
Conflict is human. It indicates that something is alive. However, the way we deal with these conflicts is crucial. Communication skills are extremely useful in dealing with an existing conflict. This is because they leave room for emotions, underlying interests, and needs. In this way, a conflict can itself be a starting point for mutual understanding and greater comprehension.
Phase 4
Restore and strengthen
Conflict is never pleasant. However, every conflict is a learning experience. Recovery begins with listening, acknowledging, and taking responsibility for your own part. Not to assign blame, but to create understanding. How can certain things be prevented? How could I handle this situation in the future with a view to achieving a different outcome? A conflict that is lived through and resolved strengthens the relationship—with the other person and with yourself.
